Move Your Servers and Microsoft 365 to Azure — Without Downtime or Data Loss.
Azure migration covers two distinct but often linked projects: moving your server workloads from on-premise infrastructure to Azure virtual machines, and migrating your email and productivity platform to Microsoft 365. CX IT Services is a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider managing both types of migration for Melbourne businesses — with a methodology that ensures zero data loss, defined downtime windows, and a post-migration environment that is secure and optimised from day one.

What's Included
Everything you get with Microsoft Azure Migration Melbourne managed by CX IT Services Melbourne.
Azure Migrate Assessment
Azure Migrate scans your on-premise server environment and produces a detailed readiness assessment: which VMs are ready to lift-and-shift, which need remediation, the right Azure VM size for each workload, and a projected monthly Azure cost. You see the full picture before committing to anything.
Server Lift-and-Shift to Azure IaaS
We migrate physical and virtual servers to Azure virtual machines using Azure Migrate's agentless replication. Servers replicate continuously in the background; the actual cutover window is typically 30–60 minutes per server. Workloads are right-sized for their actual utilisation, not their original provisioning.
Microsoft 365 Email Migration
Migration from on-premise Exchange Server, IMAP hosted email, or Google Workspace Gmail to Exchange Online. Includes coexistence configuration during the parallel period, Outlook profile reconfiguration, shared mailbox and distribution list migration, and DNS cutover managed in a defined window.
File Server to SharePoint and OneDrive
On-premise Windows file servers replaced with SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business — with permissions audited and rebuilt in SharePoint, folder structures reviewed for the SharePoint model, and staff trained on the new environment before cutover.
Security Baseline on Day One
Every Azure environment CX IT Services deploys is hardened from the first day: Entra ID Conditional Access and MFA enforced, Microsoft Defender for Cloud enabled, backup configured and tested, and network security groups configured to least-privilege. You do not inherit security debt from a rushed migration.
Post-Migration Hypercare
For 30 days after cutover, we monitor your new Azure environment intensively — resolving teething issues as they arise, training staff on the new platform, optimising VM sizing based on real usage data, and ensuring everything is working as expected before transitioning to steady-state management.
"An Azure migration done correctly leaves your business more secure, more capable, and less dependent on ageing hardware. Done incorrectly, it creates months of cleanup."

Why CX IT Services for Azure Migration
The difference between a provider and a partner invested in your outcomes.
No More On-Premise Server Hardware
On-premise servers have a typical refresh cycle of 5–7 years — a capital cost event that disrupts budgets and requires maintenance throughout. Azure eliminates the hardware refresh cycle: you pay for compute by the month, scale up or down as your needs change, and Microsoft handles the physical infrastructure. Melbourne businesses moving from end-of-life servers to Azure typically reduce total infrastructure cost while gaining better reliability and security.
Microsoft CSP Advantage
As a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider, CX IT Services manages your Azure and Microsoft 365 licensing directly — with consolidated billing, access to Microsoft partner support, and the ability to adjust licensing as your needs change. You deal with one provider for your entire Microsoft cloud stack, not a direct Microsoft account alongside your IT provider.
Remote Work Enabled From Day One
On-premise servers require VPN for remote access — a complexity that many Melbourne businesses have found to be a productivity bottleneck. Azure-hosted workloads, Microsoft 365 email and files, and Azure Virtual Desktop are all accessible from any device, anywhere, without VPN. Your team works the same way whether they are in the office or remote.

Server Migration to Azure: What the Process Actually Involves
An Azure server migration using Azure Migrate is a live replication approach — servers continue operating normally while their disk contents are replicated to Azure in the background. The migration timeline looks like this:
First, we deploy the Azure Migrate appliance in your environment. This lightweight virtual machine connects to your vCenter or Hyper-V host and discovers every VM, collecting performance data (CPU, memory, disk, network) over a 30-day assessment period. The performance data is used to right-size Azure VMs — a server that was provisioned with 16GB RAM in 2019 but only uses 6GB today will be migrated to an Azure VM with 8GB, reducing your Azure bill.
Once the assessment is complete and the Azure architecture is designed and approved, replication begins. Each VM's disks are replicated to Azure Recovery Services vault in the background — this process typically takes 12–48 hours for an average-sized server, depending on disk size and your internet connection bandwidth. After initial replication, only changes are replicated continuously.
When you are ready to test, we perform a test migration: spinning up the Azure VMs in an isolated test network and validating that applications work correctly. Your team can test against the migrated environment before any production cutover.
Cutover is scheduled for a low-traffic window. We trigger a final synchronisation, shut down the on-premise VM, complete the final replication, and start the Azure VM. The process takes 30–60 minutes per server. DNS and any application configuration changes are made, and the server is operational in Azure. We monitor intensively for the next 24–48 hours before declaring the migration complete.
Microsoft 365 Migration: Exchange On-Premise to Exchange Online
Microsoft 365 email migration from on-premise Exchange is the most common migration type for Melbourne businesses. The typical migration path for a 10–50 user business uses a staged or cutover migration — the approach depends on your Exchange version and the number of mailboxes.
For businesses running Exchange 2013 or later, a hybrid migration is usually the cleanest approach: configuring a hybrid connection between on-premise Exchange and Microsoft 365, then migrating mailboxes gradually over 1–3 weeks with full coexistence (email flowing to both old and new simultaneously). Staff can be moved in batches, and each batch is validated before the next begins.
For businesses running older Exchange versions (2010 or earlier) or hosted email (IMAP), a cutover migration is simpler: exporting mailboxes, importing to Microsoft 365, configuring DNS to point to Exchange Online, and reconfiguring Outlook clients. The trade-off is a defined cutover window where email is in transition.
In both cases, CX IT Services manages the full scope: Autodiscover DNS configuration (ensuring Outlook clients connect to the right server automatically), mobile device reconfiguration, shared mailbox and room calendar migration, distribution list migration, and legacy public folders if applicable.
Post-migration, we configure Microsoft 365 security settings that on-premise Exchange does not provide: Conditional Access enforcing MFA, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 email security, and Microsoft Purview retention policies for email archiving.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Microsoft Azure Migration Melbourne for Melbourne businesses.
What is the difference between migrating to Azure and migrating to Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's cloud productivity suite — Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel. Migrating to Microsoft 365 means moving your email and productivity tools to Microsoft's cloud. Azure is Microsoft's infrastructure cloud — virtual machines, storage, networking, databases. Migrating to Azure means moving your server workloads (file servers, application servers, line-of-business software) to Azure virtual machines. Many Melbourne businesses do both as part of a cloud migration programme: Microsoft 365 for productivity (email, files, collaboration) and Azure for server workloads (applications, databases, specialist software). CX IT Services manages both, and they are frequently part of the same engagement.
How long does an Azure server migration take for a Melbourne SMB?
An Azure migration for a Melbourne SMB of 20–50 staff running 3–6 servers typically takes 6–10 weeks from assessment to cutover. The timeline includes: 1–2 weeks for the Azure Migrate assessment and architecture design, 1–2 weeks for Azure environment build and network configuration, 2–4 weeks for server replication and testing in parallel, and a scheduled cutover weekend. Microsoft 365 email migration for the same business runs 2–4 weeks in parallel. The two streams can be managed simultaneously. We provide a detailed project plan with milestones after the assessment so you know exactly what to expect.
Will our staff experience downtime during the Azure migration?
For Microsoft 365 email migration, no — we run a parallel period where email flows to both the old system and Microsoft 365 simultaneously, and staff can begin using the new platform before the DNS cutover. For server migrations using Azure Migrate, the cutover window is typically 30–60 minutes per server, scheduled outside business hours. During the cutover window, the server is in a brief offline state while the final synchronisation completes. We schedule server cutovers for Friday evenings or Saturday mornings and have rollback procedures ready if anything needs to be reversed.
What happens to our on-premise server after the Azure migration?
After the Azure migration is complete and validated, we decommission the on-premise server in a controlled process: removing it from Active Directory, disabling it, retaining it as a fallback for 30 days, and then formally decommissioning it. We document every step. If the server was leased or under maintenance, we advise on the contract implications before proceeding. If you have on-premise hardware that can be repurposed — as a local file cache, a network appliance, or backup storage — we advise on that too rather than assuming everything gets turned off.
What does an Azure migration cost for a Melbourne business?
Azure migration costs have two components: the project fee for the migration work, and the ongoing Azure consumption and licensing costs. A Microsoft 365 email migration for 10–20 users is typically $2,500–$5,500 as a fixed project. A server migration for 3–5 servers runs $8,000–$18,000 depending on server complexity and whether application remediations are required. Ongoing Azure monthly consumption for a 20–50 user Melbourne business running 2–4 Azure VMs typically runs $600–$2,000 per month in Azure charges plus our management fee. We provide detailed cost modelling before any commitment.
Can you migrate our line-of-business software to Azure?
It depends on the application. Most modern line-of-business applications — practice management, accounting, ERP, CRM — have cloud-hosted versions or support installation on Azure virtual machines. For older applications with dependencies on specific Windows Server versions, local file paths, or local SQL Server instances, we assess what is required to run them on Azure IaaS. Some applications run perfectly on Azure VMs without any change; others require minor reconfiguration; a small number are better left on-premise. We do not migrate applications to Azure where the result would be worse performance or stability than the current on-premise deployment.
We are moving offices — is that a good time to migrate to Azure?
Yes — an office move is often the optimal trigger for an Azure migration. You are already planning infrastructure changes; adding an Azure migration eliminates the need to move on-premise servers to the new location. The disruption of the move is consolidated into a single transition period rather than two separate events. We recommend beginning the Azure migration assessment 3–4 months before the planned office move date to ensure the migration is complete and stable before the physical relocation.
